Uruguay in general, and José Ignacio, specifically, were wonderful discoveries. The EV revolution hasn't really reached Uruguay yet, but it runs efficiently and is economically and politically stable. Montevideo feels clean and safe - a charming, modern colonial city.
José Ignacio, on a beautiful South Atlantic peninsula, feels like Montauk in the '90s - casual, chic, and charming, despite a definite "international travel set" vibe. We stayed at the beautifully appointed and wonderfully staffed boutique hotel, Posada Awaya, which hosts its own James Turrell SkySpace that guests can visit at any time! Amazing. We explored many tasty bakeries, coffee shops, restaurants, and a stunning museum of contemporary Uruguayan art. As for Punta del Este, OK next.
